I’m Only Human: Christina Perri #HeadOrHeartTourAsia Experience

Christina Perri Live in Manila Head or Heart Tour Experience — She wanted to come here since “Jar of Hearts” days, and yesterday, one of her wishes just came true.

I was given a huge chance to listen to an international singer so dear to me. I am a big fan of Christina Perri since the “Jar of Hearts” days. “Distance” and “Arms” are my other favorites in her album Lovestrong before Head or Heart.

And she performed all of them during her concert here in Manila. *tears*

Last March 5, Perri performed for the first time in Manila. She said she wanted to come to Manila 5 years ago. It was a surreal moment for me since I was given this…

I am literally a few steps from my idol behind the Filipino wedding favorite song 2013-2014, A Thousand Years. A very intimate crowd awaited her step up the stage.

And there she goes! Everyone’s eyes on her, listening to her angelic voice in every song.

Christina started the set with lively songs “A Shot in the Heart”, and one of my favorites from her prvious album, “Arms” and “Distance”. She sounded so good, so good I thought it was a good decision that I brought a hanky with me in case tears fall down lol.

OMG She glanced at my camera! Yiiaaayy!

She then sings back-to-back from her two albums with “Burning Gold” and “The Words”. Few minutes after, she requested everyone to light up their phone’s flashlights. Much to our surprise, she sang a good bit of Coldplay’s “Sky Full of Stars”, and it was such an amazing moment.

We made the dome look like a sky full of stars!

And that fine moment came! The song everyone was waiting for in this concert. A Thousand Years started as a surprise. We actually thought it’ll be her last song (no cheating, we didn’t take a quick glance on her Asia setlist!). She looked so cute she was doing Waltz all throughout the song.

After singing a couple more songs, she started with a clue on her next performance, that whenever she feels stucked, in her experience, only self-forgiveness will make her feel un-stucked… “Human”. I.Cried.A.Lot. I was hiding from my friend haha!

Afterwards, she temporarily left the stage and came back singing an amazing hit from ED SHEERAN!

Yes. It’s Thinking Out Loud! The crowd went nuts!

And then during the “Penguin“ song, she asked the audience to take selfies with her on the background – and the best one would be reposted by her on IG. And so we did!

2015-03-05 22.01.26

After the #HeadorHeartTourAsia #selfie moment, Perri sang the song that’s worth a thousand words, the song that changed her life completely. It’s the Jar of Hearts!

Perri then ends her concert with a lively “I Don’t Wanna Break”, a song from her latest album.

Please come back soon dear!

For those who missed it, here’s the complete #HeadOrHeartTour Manila setlist:

  • Shot Me In The Heart
  • Arms
  • Distance
  • Burning Gold
  • The Words
  • Lollipop (The Chordettes cover)
  • Lonely Child
  • A Thousand Years
  • Be My Forever
  • A Sky Full Of Stars (Coldplay cover)
  • One Night
  • Human
  • I Believe
  • Thinking Out Loud (Ed Sheeran cover)
  • Penguin
  • Jar Of Hearts
  • I Don’t Wanna Break

Our sincerest gratitude to Midas Philippines! Thank you so much my dear friend Melanie for giving me a chance to hear one of my favorite singers live! Also a shoutout for one of my respected blogger Mc Richard of LionHearTV, nice seeing you there! Credits to Crystal Mariano for the YouTube videos.

Amelie Hotel Manila Rises In The Heart Of Malate!

MANILA, Philippines – The recently-opened hotel during the Chinese New Year 2015 is the newest chic address in Malate: AMÉLIE HOTEL MANILA.

This boutique hotel offers 70 rooms in three size types to suit the particular needs of guests—Single Room (24 sq m), Double Room (33 sq m) and Suite Room (31 sq m).

The rooms are designed in modern minimalist style with chic furniture, and art deco inspired accents, framed photos or visual representations of fascinating facets of Manila’s culture, and an oversized map of Metro Manila to act as decorative elements. The map that is a design element in all rooms also serves as an actual guide to help tourists navigate the streets of Malate and landmark the sites of Metro Manila.

Designed by noted interior stylist Anton Barretto, the rooms feature an interesting design motif: a stylized, linear canopy that sets the bed apart and gives the room more depth and dimension. All rooms come with large and comfortable queen-sized beds and are equipped with essential amenities such as a 32in flat screen LED TV and complimentary Wi-Fi connection. Inspired by the bohemian spirit of old Malate, Amélie Hotel Manila will incorporate works by contemporary artists in Manila today. “We wanted to bring something new to the Malate scene by giving our guests a sampling of Manila’s local contemporary and hip culture. We will be collaborating with the new wave of artists – painters, photographers, graphic designers, fashion designers and musicians in Manila and give them a venue to showcase their art. By doing so, we will be able to give our guests a well-rounded experience of Manila, Malate in particular,” says Amélie Hotel Manila brand director Mr. Mark Abellon.

Hallways leading to the rooms feature niches where works of emerging Filipino contemporary artists will be put on display. Artworks will be rotated on a quarterly basis to give tourists the opportunity to get acquainted with the local culture and art of local artists.

Likewise, the hotel curate the music being played in all public areas to include independent and underground artists playing their own brand of music.

To incorporate the free-spirited vibe of old Malate, the lobby of Amélie Hotel Manila features Art Deco inspired furniture pieces and design accents. It also has a multi-layered roof deck overlooking the city’s skyline, a swimming pool with a view of Manila Bay, a multipurpose hall, a gym and viewing deck.

Managed by Paramount Hotels & Facilities Management Co. Inc, service play an important aspect of the Amélie Hotel Manila experience. “There are many structures like Amélie Hotel Manila in the Malate area, but none offers the kind of service we will give. We are a boutique hotel giving four-star service to our guests. This will be carried out through our professional, efficient, but extremely warm service. It is the small details and gestures given with sincerity that will set Amélie Hotel Manila apart,” stresses Amélie Hotel Manila general manager Jose Antonio Sacluti.

Sacluti brings to Amélie Hotel Manila several years of experience in the hospitality industry. Before joining Paramount Hotels, he has worked at prestigious hotel brands such as Heritage Hotel Manila, Hotel Diva in San Francisco, St. Gregory Hotel and The River Inn Hotel both in Washington, DC.

Ruygroup Hotel Corporation was established in 2012 and is affiliated with the Uy Group companies. The Uy Group companies are focused primarily on real estate and development with an emphasis on commercial and residential leasing.  Amélie Hotel Manila, the first project of Ruygroup Hotel Corporation, is being built on land formerly occupied by the Uy ancestral home.

Thank you my dear friend Mars Callo for giving us a chance to take a look at Amelie! We’ll definitely give it a try soon!

Zoomantic Farmville Experience At Paradizoo Mendez

Follow our journey in pictures of this one-of-a-kind animal & plant sanctuary in the south!

We’ve always wanted to go to a zoo since we haven’t been to one, together. Thanks to Zoomanity, we were given a chance to have our travel date in two of the most fun zoos in Tagaytay / Mendez.

Yes. Two. And we’re not complaining!

Due to a huge bunch of photos we took there (there’s a reason why it was way lots), we’re cutting this experience into two parts. For now, let’s talk about the Paradizoo and it’s “Power of Three” harvest, flower, and agri-farm event.

From Makati, traveling to Paradizoo Tagaytay will take you around 2-3 hours, 2 if you’re coming on a fair weekday and 3+ if you’re climbing up Tagaytay on a weekend.

Few seconds and you’re off to an amazing animal and plant sanctuary

This huge guy gave us a warm welcome

And these guys too!

Chill for a few minutes as you prepare your gadgets, plus take the orientation here

Located in Mendez, Cavite, Paradizoo is ideal for picnics, educational field trips, outdoor and even group outing (team building) programs. It is a fascinating paradise that showcases the beauty of flora and fauna. Have a taste of this magnificent theme farm with its latest attractions. Take a look at the photos we took as we roam around this beauty!

Check out these amazing flowers at the start of your tour

These mini-horses are so cute you can even ride on it! Just kids though.

The first time I ever got this close to an ostrich! I swear their feet is soooo Jurassic!

They’re special! These two were born during Papal’s arrival!

You wouldn’t notice it at first, but this cow has 5 legs!

Get that desert feel by being close to this camel

And more more farm-frenzy to look forward to…

Just like these picture-perfect meeeeehheeeh!

There’s definitely more to these iya-iya-yoohs. First to mention is the Flower Farm, where you can take all the selfies and groupies you want. The irresistable flower sanctuary will make you turn on that camera app and keep a memory of this huge garden you’ll surely appreciate.

See? This garden deserves a groupie!

Another attraction here is the small Pet Cemetery. But John doesn’t want to stay there and take photos simply because it makes him feel depressed.

Situated next to the Perpetual Park is the Butterflies’ Blooms, where you can easily touch and play with the gorgeous butterflies in different shapes, colors, and sizes.

Stare at these butterfly Larvae and Pupae. I’ve seen this much for the first time here.

Look, Ma. I got one!

Up next is the Honey House, where you can take a closer look at the honey bees producing that sweet syrup.

And then in front of the Honey House is the Eclectic Garden, the combined herb, plants, vegetables, and flower haven.

A combination of pineapple, a plant, and a beautiful creature. So eclectic.

ZOMG! A wedding garden! It’s about time?

Nah. We were taught instead how to make a pineapple jam. Not what we expected haha!

Oh, and if you want to experience it yourself, Pineapple Jamming only costs P90. Plus, you get to take home all that you’ve cooked!

Before we headed back home, John wanted to take home some Paradizoo goodness.

There’s a huge selection of plants, flowers, and herbs for sale

And he got these for less than P200!

Complete your tour by dropping by the souvenir shop

The tour took at an estimate of half-day. Arrived at the venue around 11AM, we finished at roughly 3PM. Now as part of sharing our tour, here’s some tips if you want to experience the awesome agri-journey here at Paradizoo:

  1. Bring jacket. While Tagaytay is a bit far from Mendez, expect cool breeze. Keep a jacket handy just in case.
  2. Bring a power bank. Lots of sightseeing means lots of pictures. Our phones did not survive without one. So bring one to make sure you can keep pictures of each and everything that you see here.
  3. Keep a water bottle. It may become super warm or super cold. Keep yourself hydrated as the tour course is a little bit uphill.
  4. Plants are the best souvenirs. And yes maybe we’re biased, but surely those plants won’t cost that cheap when you get it in the city. Be mindful though, you’re in a cold cold place and some of the plants won’t survive the city heat. Better ask the farmers with what’s best to bring home.

Overall, Paradizoo will bring you to a one-of-a-kind Farmville-style ride. While we must say that this attraction is at its best on your very first visit, we are sure Paradizoo is definitely staying to provide us with a bunch of surprises soon!

What an experience! Our Travel Dates approves!

Stay tuned for the Part 2 of this Zoomanity tour. Up Next: Tagaytay Residence Inn!

A Run Of Firsts: The Condura Skyway Marathon 2015 Experience

A running day of so many firsts! #SAF44 #Fallen44 #ConduraSkywayMarathon #RunForAHero

We were not as excited to do a run simply because my last run was more than a year ago, and John haven’t even ran for once.

But this turned out to be a big reason why we should.

The annual Condura Skyway Marathon is definitely one of the much-awaited race of the year. Last year, the Run for the Mangroves was cancelled due the to emergency situation of Yolanda typhoon. The organizers chose to use their budgets and efforts for helping the victims. This year, Condura honors Hero Foundation. Since 1988, Hero Foundation has been sending children of fallen soldiers to school. Now, the event went more significant due to the 44 SAF soldiers who have fallen on Mamasapano.

But why do people choose to attend this event every year?

  • You get to actually walk and run on the Skyway itself, something that you can only do when you’re in this event!
  • The feeling of running on a straight race track and the amplified wind because of the elevation makes it super comfortable to run.
  • The memorabilia for being a finisher is superb. Finisher’s medal in a typical event is only attainable when you run half or full marathon only. But with Skyway Marathon, even the 6K and 10K finishers get to receive a finisher’s medal!

Pre-Race Preparations

What preparation? LOL! Our race preparation is simple:

Tadaa!! Memorial plan. Leche.

We were super paranoid because we barely had preparations, and we were just messing around the treadmill and elliptical machines 2 days before the run, that we didn’t even last for 30 minutes on a very low intensity. So we had to arrange a memorial plan! If you think we’re just kidding, look at the date! Haha!

Also, we almost attended a birthday celebration that is composed of a huge pool of drinks 8 hours prior to this event, but luckily we were able to skip it unintentionally. At least we had around 5 hours of sleep. 5 hours. So much for getting ready for our first run of the year, first run together. Tawa na lang!

During The Race

We woke up at exactly 3AM, 2 hours before the 10KM gun start. We weren’t even trying to hurry up. Just eating a bunch of Lacatan bananas while prepping up.

We were lucky to arrive at the runner’s village as early as 4AM thanks to the taxi driver who had to ask for an additional P100 because walang pasahero pabalik. K.

We were on Wave C. Each wave starts in an interval estimate of 4-5 minutes per wave. After all the stretching, firework-watching, and repeatedly singing to this run’s LSS theme, “Heroes” by Alesso, it’s time to run!

The Huge Feels

Minutes before the 10K waves started, we were instructed to give a long salute and take a look to our left. Soon as we crossed the starting line, the feels started rushing…

2015-condura-skyway-pnp-saf-start-line2 2015-condura-skyway-pnp-saf-start-lineCredits to: Dante Peralta of SPIN.PH

Those are the PNP Special Action Force standing at attention along the tunnel leading to the Skyway ramp and holding the photos with names of the Fallen 44. After passing through, it made us realize that this run should be a no-match against the sacrifices these heroes made for our country. It was the perfect starting push for this 10-kilometer journey.

The complete photos of the Fallen 44 being held by their brothers during CSM2015: Run for a Hero

The Race Continues

This was our first time to run together, and we were both pacing each other, so we were just about to make a benchmark to beat on our 10K run. During the first half of the run, we have both managed to run continuously.

Until the 5th kilometer mark.

I wanted to pull away from John’s pace because my feet started hurting and my legs are starting to feel the pain. He stayed with me (Yiii!). The walk-run-walk-run episode started. Thanks to the 10K route, the 2nd half is mostly downhill so there’s a minimal need for acceleration that you can even jog in place and still move forward.

In the end, we were both smiling on the last 250 meters and just dashing forward all the way to the finish line, knowing that we both did the unimaginable. Even without much practice, we survived 10K with an estimated time of 1:24:00! It definitely isn’t a good run to think compared to the standard 10K runners, but yeah, we still finished. That’s all that matters for now!

Post-Race Kemerat

As expected, the runner’s village becomes the big concert area after the run. We got our share of the replenishments. Overall, it was a fun and inspiring experience. The pleasure is definitely ours for running in honor of our fallen heroes especially the #SAF44. Let me take this opportunity to congratulate my partner for surviving his first 10K run, first running event, and his first medal too! Yey! Let’s make sure we run 21K next year okay?

John’s first finisher’s medal! Yay! Cheers to more.

Plus, we were able to take a photo with some of the guys from the Philippine Navy too! We missed the PNP-SAF troops.

Congratulations to all finishers! See you again next year!
